Many equine practices still underuse their technicians, and many veterinarians do not know what credentialed technicians are trained to do. In this episode, host Marie Rosenthal talks with Lexie Conrow, LVT, AAEVT president and an anesthesia technician at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, and Arie Wolff, LVT, LVMT, VTS-EVN, AAEVT president-elect, who runs the equine surgery service at the University of Tennessee. They describe their work in surgery and anesthesia and how they came to equine medicine. They explain why most technician programs focus on small animals and how the AAEVT's new internship and externship list connects students with clinics. They also discuss title protection, which varies by state, and how equine veterinary technicians can do more, from bandage changes to their own field appointments where state law allows.
